Hang it up and squash it in

There are a few things I had to come to terms with since we moved onto a
boat, and one of them is the serious lack of storage! Going from a 480m2
house with built in storage in every room, to a 36 foot long and approx 22m2.
Sooo apart from the obvious culling of almost every thing we really didn't need,
I've had to get creative with how I store the things we do need...... like, food etc.

I hang things up on hooks and fruit is hung in net bags (like the one above). Food
that needs to be refrigerated can be a bit tricky to try and squeeze it all into a bar
fridge, but the most tricky stuff to try and fit on the boat happens to be my clothing.
We all have one drawer and even though I also got dibs on the small hanging cupboard,
I still had to donate over half of my clothes to Vinnies. We have a rule, whatever you
take onto the boat, something has to come off it, the kids definitely think twice about
wanting to buy "stuff". Living on the boat has made me realise how much crap we
had and didn't need, and how resourceful we can be.

  1. I LoVe the idea of the net bag!
You could use it for soft toys or even towels if you had to......
Hanging storage all the way would be the go I think......in a limited space.
    Have a great day!!!

  2. great idea! I guess I didn't realize you lived on a boat. we are living in a teeny apartment and I know what you mean about storage. We see our apartment as a hotel room that we can't stuff because, we have to remain mobile for our adventures.
